Levalet, born Charles Leval in 1988 in Epinal, grew up in Guadeloupe where he was first introduced to urban culture and later visual arts. After pursuing visual arts studies in Strasbourg, his work began to turn towards video, and made use of his meticulous theatrical training. In 2012, he obtained an aggregation, the same year he started placing his work in the streets of Paris and elsewhere.
Levalet’s works above all consist of drawings and installations. Characters drawn with Indian ink are then posted in public spaces in an attempt to spark a visual and semantic dialogue with his present environment. The characters interact with the city’s architecture in mundane situations that also border on the absurd.
