STAY ART HOME – Volume 2

Every week throughout the lockdown, Quai 36's team recommends you a selection of cultural activities : movies, art, or music, to cultivate one's mind and curiosity from home.

CINEMA

MK2 and Trois Couleurs have joined forces to provide film lovers and onlookers the MK2 Curiosity platform, a weekly selection of films and other cinematic surprises that is meant to be enlightening and exploring cinema all over the world. The selection is updated every Wednesday, and we warmly invite you to bookmark the page in your favourites.

Films you can currently find on the platform : Le Voyage dans la Lune, Georges Méliès, 1902; Le Voyage Extraordinaire, Serge Bromberg & Éric Lange, 2011; A Star is Born, William A. Wellman, 1937; Sharkwater, Rob Stewart, 2006 and A Farewell to Arms, Frank Borzage, 1932.

We have also found the Trois Couleurs' platform named "Le Festival à la Maison" and in particular their selection of short films: the perfect opportunity to discover cinematic gems from all eras and styles.

It is quite impossible to choose among the already remarkable selection: let yourself be carried away among the list to be found on their website.

Toni Erdmann, Maren Ade, 2016

One of our favorites !
Ines is a businesswoman with a very organized life, so far so good. One day, her father, whose fantasies make her feel ashamed, arrives and asks her a question that will turn everything upside down: Are you happy? To help her answer this question he creates an imaginary character: Toni Erdmann.

Available in VoD on the Arte shop.

A species apartArte

A sweet escape from the infinitely large to the infinitely small is guaranteed: this series of videos, which make up a thirty-minute documentary, is simply fascinating. It focuses on humanity and the universe in which we live, a universe we are far from being the centre. We even wonder how we were able to learn so much in just thirty minutes. Have a good trip.

The documentary is to be found on Arte's website.

MUSIC

This week, no jealousy: a hiphop classic and an un-gendered novelty

ATLiens, Outkast, 1996

ATLiens is the perfect album of the artistic transition of the legendary Atlanta Outkast band, like a midpoint in Outkast's transformation as a band and as a sound. A deeper, stranger and more specific sound for a musical journey tinged with blues and Southern United States soul.

To be (re)discovered on Spotify, Deezer & Youtube.

Nsfw, Drixxxé, 2020

It has been almost 6 years that Cédric Aubrun, Drixxxé for his artist name, started working on this new project which sounds like a renewal. The 40-year-old Parisian producer characterizes his album Nsfw as the soundtrack to an imaginary film.

To be discovered on Spotify, Deezer & Youtube.

ART

Choosing was also here a difficult decision as all the cultural institutions are making their best to open their collections to as many people as possible during this housing period, to our great pleasure.

Special mention should be awarded to the Centre Pompidou, where it is impossible not to find something to your liking, starting with the free training courses:

"Modern and Contemporary Art in 8 gestures and 4 periods."

That says it all! It has never been so easy to learn at your own pace, for free and from your sofa: confined but cultivated.

Two free classes to be taken online.

Masterpieces Collections

The Centre Pompidou also enables viewers to discover a selection of artworks from the Masterpieces collections on the 4th and 5th levels of the Museum: a virtual visit in image and video to immerse yourself in the "formal and aesthetic research that is the foundation of modern and contemporary art".

"Monographic or thematic exhibitions, presented by curators and artists".

Twenty-three exhibitions without any queue are available on the Centre Pompidou's Youtube.

PODCAST

"Marjane Satrapi's Radiation" - Boomerang, France Inter, Augustin Trapenard

In each episode of Boomerang, Augustin Trapenard draws an inspired portrait of his guest, with whom he looks back over his course or career in the light of anecdotes or achievements.

These interviews are intimate : they make you feel at home, and it is particularly the case of the half-hour that you are invited to spend with Marjane Satrapi on the occasion of the release of her new film Radioactive. The woman who made a name for herself for her brilliant movie Persepolis, entertains us with her unconditional love for cinema, which she has cherished without fuss since her childhood in Iran.

A program to be discovered on France Inter.
