Alexandra Arango

Alexandra Arango’s artistic research revolves around drawing on different scales and with different mediums. After paper drawings, she turned to performative drawing and then to painting murals in public spaces.

Her work explores animal and human nature, creating fanciful imagery she then uses to express, in a fun and conscious way, feelings from her past related to social conflicts like those occurring in her country of origin, Columbia. Her work also takes on a narrative dimension through which she materializes memories and a memory connected to historical events, as well as to lived situations.

The stories told are marked by a haunting duality between the sublime and the grotesque, nature and danger, beauty and death. Violence, uprooting, and the memory of colonialism are also recurrent themes.
