Yann L’Outsider
Yann Le Berre aka Yann L'Outsider was born in 1984. He was introduced to graffiti at the age of 17 and, carried away by the liberating adrenaline of an instinctive creation on the bangs of legality, he developed his practice of urban art by taking over places abandoned to their fate in order to inscribe and assert his artistic identity. At the same time, he joined the École Boulle for a training in cabinet making. A craft of excellence subjected to the meticulous and codified requirements aiming at the perfection of the realization, in counterpoint of the lightning artistic expression of the graffiti.
Yann L'Outsider, who presents himself as "urban by accident", lives today on his family land in Brittany, a permanent source of inspiration that is undoubtedly not unrelated to his evolution towards the canvas and work in the studio. The artist has oriented his aesthetic research towards abstraction, gradually abandoning color.
He explores in particular two dimensions which are for him typographic abstraction through formal compositions around the letter - an aesthetic nourished by the DNA of the graffiti artist - and metaphysical abstraction inspired by the observation of cosmic movements and the dynamics of the elements of which he seeks to retranscribe the kinetics in the lines and the vertiginous plays of light and shade. More recently, Yann L'Outsider has approached a figurative dimension in his studio that comes from the proximity observed between dance and the choreographic gestures of graffiti, represented in stylized forms.
Yann L'Outsider set up his studio in Pont-Aven, in old agricultural buildings transformed into a space for creation and artistic experimentation. For as much he never broke with the intervention in public space. Regularly solicited by collectives and institutions, he continues his achievements in France and internationally, investing the monumental dimension in conditions close to the spirit of the origins of his practice. On canvas, the artist strives to reconcile in the same movement the spontaneity of urban art and the more introspective course of research in the studio. This duality is the spring of a creative tension that unfolds a singular work, fascinating, with unfathomable and mysterious effects.
